20th Annual TSA Technology Day Competition Results

On Thursday, November 7, 2024, 32 students from Lockport Township High School Engineering Design, Architecture, Welding, Digital Pathways, STEM Exploration, and Introduction to Engineering Design courses competed at the 20th Annual Technology Student Association (TSA) Technology Day Competition at Illinois State University. The Illinois Technology Student Association in conjunction with the Department of Technology of Illinois State University and the Technology Education Collegiate Association (TECA) sponsors Technology Day.

Technology Day is an opportunity for students to apply technology and engineering design education from a standards point of view, through an extra curricular type format, competing against students from all over the state of Illinois in hands-on, problem-solving-based activities/challenges. Each competition has Level 1 (sixth to ninth grades) and Level 2 (10th to 12th grades) components. The competitions are based on the National Standards for Technological Literacy: Content for the Study of Technology (International Technology Education Association, 2000).

The students compete in teams of two to design and build the device to solve the various engineering and/or structural challenges in four different problem-solving categories. All the teams from LTHS were able to solve the problems and five of the teams were very successful in that they placed in the top three in the state.

Congratulations to all five teams! The final results of the student competition were:

Josephine Baranowski & Olivia Priest for placing 2nd in Engineering Design – Level 1
Olivia Young & Olivia Picciola for placing 3rd in Engineering Design – Level 1
Lia Merkel & Gavin Monreal for placing 3rd in Transportation Technology – Level 1
Max Carroll & Liam Kane for placing 3rd in Engineering Design – Level 1
